7 Tips For The Best September Of Your Life - #4’s Essential

Here we are, in full throttle ‘back to school’ mode.
Summer’s but a distant dream, and it’s time to get a shit ton of work done before the John Lewis Christmas ad blasts us in to a whole new frantic season of cheer (and panic that we’ve left our x-mas shopping till the last minute again).
Some of us adore this time of year (me), some hate it (normal people).
Whichever side of the fence you currently sit, I wrote down some ‘rules’ to help me get the most out of this month, and I think they’ll be pretty useful for you, too (especially #4).
1) Let People Be Who & Where They Are:
I cannot stress enough how much more time and energy you’ll have if you make it your mission this month to STOP trying to control other people, and use all that energy to focus on and enhance your own life instead. FAR easier said than done, and it’s something you literally need to constantly remind yourself throughout the day. However, it’s without a doubt the single most important spiritual life principle I know, because it’s the only way you’ll ever get to fully enjoy and be present in your life. In ‘The Inner Fix’, we refer to this idea as ‘detaching with love’; it’s the practice of loving and accepting people as they are (sometimes from a respectful distance), which allows you to keep the focus primarily on you and your life.
2) Give More:
To help cultivate a more abundant relationship with and mindset around money, commit to giving more of what you already have away – whether that’s a small amount (just £3 a month, for example) to a charity you believe in, or use a portion of your paycheck to treat friends and family to an experience you know they’ll love. Years ago, I set up a ‘giving account’, and every month I put 10% of my earnings in to it and use this to give to causes (or people) I feel passionate about supporting.
3) Save More:
Whilst we’re on the subject of finances, it’s worth noting that many of us millennials make little effort to save money because we already feel so strapped for cash much of the time. However, a little goes a long way, and in the slightly bastardised words of Brian Tracy: “Don’t not do something because of the time it will take to achieve it; the time will pass anyway.” In other words, even if you’re only able to save a tenner a month right now, that is literally a whole lot better than nothing. And more importantly, you’ll begin to develop the habit of investing in your future, which will significantly increase your sense of self-worth and dignity (not to mention your net worth.)
4) Keep It In The Day:
September is a month of getting back in to massive productivity after chilled and lazy summer vibes, and for me, that often means huge overwhelm. Take half an hour to write down your goals and intentions for the month, and then break them down into manageable, daily chunks and tasks. If you wanna get reaaaally spiritual about it, scale it back even further and keep the focus on the task and moment you find yourself in at any one time within the day. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time, my friend ;)
5) Wear More Red Lipstick:
It instantly makes you feel like you’ve got your shit together, even when you don’t. Apparently the Parisians often wear it without any other makeup to look effortlessly glamorous – great for lazy sods like yours truly ;)
6) Meditate Daily – without fail:
Yeh, yeh, yeh, I know you hear me warble on about this all the time, but are you actually doing it?! As well as reducing anxiety, stress and depression significantly, meditation is the single most effective way I know of helping you create the life of your dreams. 7) Affirm Your Success & Wellbeing Constantly:
“Everything is always working out for me.” This one’s from the spiritual medium Esther/ Abraham Hicks and hugely resonates for me, because it reminds me that I can’t always see the bigger picture; sometimes things have to fall apart before they fall together. The more you affirm this throughout your day, the less stress and anxiety you’ll feel and your experience of life will start to become so much more exciting and expansive. In the words of Gabby Bernstein: “The universe has your back.”
